Nancy has always loved to sew.  Nancy would sew clothes for herself and Stephanie.  When Stephanie was a little girl and started playing with dolls, Nancy would make handmade clothes for Stephanie’s dolls. Eventually, Stephanie grew up and life took over and sewing disappeared from Nancy’s life.

Fast forward 40 years and along came Lola…a 4 pound Yorkie with the sass of a teenage drama queen. She is all girl and loves to wear pretty things. Unfortunately, pretty things that held up to her tearing around the yard chasing her 3 siblings were hard to come by. So Nancy thought to herself, “I can make pretty things on my own!” And the idea of PolkaDog Designs was born.

PolkaDog Designs

A Facial You Need to Try….

If you love lush bars, you’re going to love our Charcoal Soap. Our charcoal face bar ideal for combination or oily skin, our mildly exfoliating charcoal facial soap makes quick work of excess oil to leave your skin matte and super clean.

Our Activated Charcoal Bentonite Clay Facial Soap is made by hand in small batches. It gently cleanses, moisturizes, lathers, and smells luxuriously luscious. Add this Natural Skin Care to your daily routine for half the cost of commercial soaps.

To create this soap bar, The Chocolate Chicken uses natural ingredients. Each bar of soap bar is made with Goat Milk, Honey, Activated Charcoal, Bentonite Clay, Saponified Oils (coconut oil, olive oil, avocado, palm oil, shea butter, castor oil and essential oils). We super-fat the soap with avocado oil so it only hardens 90% of the bar, leaving the avocado oil to immediately moisturize.

Activated charcoal will not harm your skin, which makes it a good addition to your cleansing routine. If you suffer from dry skin, use charcoal soap to replace harsher cleansers. For adults with mild acne, a charcoal cleanser can help prevent outbreaks.

Bentonite clay is another great clay that can be added to soap. It also has an amazing capacity to absorb toxins from the body making it great for oily and acne-prone skin. It is composed of volcanic ash. This soap does not contain any chemically produced scents or dyes.

All of our soaps and shampoo bars are paraben, sulfate and silicone free

We recommend keeping your soap dry between uses to help extend the life of the bar.

Dimensions: 3″diameter 1″thick
Each bar is a generous 4 ounces. All of our bars are hand cut, size and color may vary. $6.95

Casseroles, a Family Favorite

My family is a huge fan of casserole.  I love them because they can be made up ahead of time and even some can be frozen for a quick meal.  We often reminisce about grandmas cooking and the different casseroles we have shared.

Here is one of our favorite casserole.  Made with chicken and bacon. WHAT? BACON!! who doesn’t love the taste combo of that.  This creamy ranch flavored pasta with chicken and bacon is sure to be a hit with your family too!

Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole
Yield: 4 servings *Prep Time: 15 minutes * Cook Time: 30 minutes

4 slices bacon, diced
2 boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch chunks
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon Ranch Seasoning or more to taste
8 ounces rotini
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
How to make alfredo sauce
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup heavy cream, or more, to taste
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly oil a 9×9 baking dish or coat with nonstick spray.
To make the alfredo sauce, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic, and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in heavy cream. Cook, whisking constantly, until incorporated, about 1-2 minutes. Stir in Parmesan until slightly thickened, about 1-2 minutes. If the mixture is too thick, add more heavy cream as needed; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Set aside.
Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add bacon and cook until brown and crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat; reserving 1 tablespoon in the skillet. Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate.
In a gallon size Ziploc bag, add chicken, 1 tablespoon olive oil and Ranch Seasoning, shaking to coat thoroughly. Add chicken to the skillet and cook, flipping once, until cooked through, about 2-3 minutes on each side; set aside.
In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package instructions; drain well.
Add pasta to the prepared baking dish and layer with chicken and alfredo sauce; sprinkle with cheeses and bacon. Place into oven and bake until bubbly and heated through, about 15-20 minutes.
Serve immediately, garnished with parsley, if desired.
